PRICAI-04 invites students to apply for the 1st Doctoral Forum. This forum provides an opportunity for PhD students in the Pacific Region to gather together to discuss their research interests and career objectives with fellow students and researchers in the field.

The Forum has the following objectives:

  1. To encourage doctoral students' awareness of other students' research being conducted in the Pacific Region;
  2. To provide feedback on participants' research from other students and researchers; and
  3. To provide a setting for discussing the phd process as conducted in different parts of the region.

All students who wish to participate in this Forum should submit a one to three-page description of their research, including major references.

All papers submitted must be authored by the student himself/herself.

If accepted, students will give a presentation of their work (duration to be specified later) in one of the parallel sessions in the main conference. Note that students who participate in this forum are charged at a discounted rate for attending the conference and for that, students are expected to attend all the sessions organised as part of this forum. A panel of researchers will also be organised to address the students.

In addition, students who submited a three-page paper will be judged for the best student paper. The best paper will be awarded a prize of $500, a certificate and his/her paper will be published in the main proceedings. The criteria for selecting the best paper will be judged
solely on:

  1. the significance of the question posed and
  2. the breadth and depth of the background research conducted so far.

Note:
The prize may be split between papers or may not be awarded at all if the committee does not recommend one. The decision made by the committee will be final and cannot be challenged.

Students who wish to participate in the Forum must submit a paper AND email to by 9th May 2004. Registration must also be completed by 9th May 2004. Their paper will not be reviewed if they have NOT registered for the conference.
